Being understood by the systems that answer.
AI Optimization is the practice of making a business legible to AI. Legible enough that when a model is asked who handles a job in a particular place, it knows what you do, where you do it, and that the information is safe to repeat.
How it differs from SEO.
The foundations overlap. The target does not. Both matter, and neither one replaces the other.
Traditional SEO
- /Goal is a position on a page of links
- /Success measured in rankings and clicks
- /Optimized for a keyword
- /Competes with nine other results
AI Optimization
- /Goal is inclusion in the generated answer
- /Success measured in mentions, citations and accuracy
- /Optimized for a question and a clear answer
- /Competes for a handful of names in one paragraph
What AI systems actually reward.
Clarity
A model can only repeat what it can state confidently. If your services, areas and pricing model are vague or buried in marketing language, there is nothing clean to lift out.
Structure
Headings that match real questions, direct answers underneath them, schema that labels what things are, and pages that do not hide content behind scripts.
Consistency
The same name, address, phone number, hours and service list everywhere they appear. Contradictions between your site and your profiles make you a risky thing to cite.
Corroboration
Other credible places saying the same thing about you. Directories, profiles, local coverage and reviews all feed the picture a model builds of your business.
AEO and GEO.
AI Optimization is the umbrella. Underneath it sit two related disciplines that we treat as one programme of work.
